Shanna Danielson for PA House 92

My name is Shanna Danielson and I’ve spent most of my life in small Pennsylvania towns. I grew up in Jim Thorpe, PA, before my father’s promotion took us to the Finger Lakes region of New York. After high school, I returned to PA to pursue my bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Mansfield University (class of 2008).

I found my first teaching job in the Cameron County School District, where I taught elementary band and general music for seven years. I found my husband Eric, earned my masters degree in Educational Leadership from Edinboro University, bought my first house, and had my son!

We moved to south central PA when my husband found his dream job, and we’ve loved our time here. I was fortunate to spend the first few months of our new adventure at home with my son. But, like many Millennial Moms, I couldn’t stay still for long. I started working for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association in January of 2017, as the Director of Education and Events.

My interest in politics has been building for many years. My first real desire to some day run for office came shortly after Governor Corbett paved the way for huge cuts to education funding in Pennsylvania. As a teacher and active member of my LEA, I saw first hand who suffered when those cuts took place- the kids.

Not long after that, the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary fundamentally changed who I was as a teacher, but also as a person. I have become active with the local chapter of MOMS Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, taking on the role of Legislative Lead for our local group.

When I’m not thinking about how I can change the world, I’m enjoying time at home (or out and about the capitol region!) with my husband Eric, my son Elliott, and our four cats- Frank Meownatra, Bing Clawsby, Purrl Ives, and Bernie Sanpurrs.
